Queen Elizabeth II gave Prince Harry and Meghan Markle an extravagant wedding gift.

The Queen is very supportive of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Just like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Her Majesty gifted Prince Harry and Markle an expensive wedding present.

Queen Elizabeth II gave the royal couple Frogmore Cottage, a 19th Century Grade II-listed mansion in Windsor Castle. A Kensington Palace spokesman said that the property was very special to the royal couple. It was where they shot their engagement photos.

Before Prince Harry and Markle moved to their new home, they had it refurbished. The renovation cost $3 million, but it was paid by the Sovereign Grant, or the money the Queen received from the people’s taxes.

Interior designer Vicky Charles was among those who worked for the incredible renovation. She shared that the Sussexes’ home included a nursery and a yoga studio.

“The building starts every design process. We spend a lot of time walking the floors, feeling it and photographing all the original finishes,” she shared.

“I think it's going to get a bit richer - more vibrant, more pattern, more layers, more decorating. The neutrals and the industrial greys are kind of done. But the practical nature of a room comes first. It doesn't matter how beautiful a chair is, if it's uncomfortable, it will never work.”

However, the property became the center of debate when Prince Harry and Markle decided to step down from their royal duties. The people paid for its renovation, but the royal couple turned their backs from their royal obligations and announced that they intend to keep the estate.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to use Frogmore Cottage as their official residence as they continue to support the Monarchy, and so that their family will always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom,” a message on their website read.

To keep the Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Markle decided to repay the renovation and rent it monthly. According to royal correspondent Emily Andrews of Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex started paying for its rent and the renovation in May.
