  • A third installment in the “A Quiet Place” franchise is officially in the works with a target release date of 2025
  • No director or writer was named during the project’s announcement
  • A spinoff film that is set to come out in 2023 is also in development

At least two “A Quiet Place” films are in the works, based on John Krasinski’s latest update.

During a Paramount investor day Tuesday, the 42-year-old actor-director announced that a third installment in the franchise is currently in development.

No director or writer was named at the event, but Krasinski could take the helm after directing the first two films in the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“A Quiet Place Part III” was given a target release date of 2025, according to Krasinski.

The movie that the “Office” alum announced is different from the upcoming one that is set in the same universe as the first two films. That one is a spinoff written and directed by Michael Sarnoski based on the idea that Krasinksi himself pitched.

Details about the spinoff have been under wraps since it was announced. However, it has already been scheduled for release in cinemas on Sept. 22, 2023, Deadline reported.

The first “A Quiet Place” movie that came out in 2018 was co-written by Krasinski and the team of Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. It became a crown jewel for Paramount after receiving rave reviews and earning $340.9 million worldwide.

The original film fueled the team behind it to come up with a sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II,” which performed well at the box office despite opening in May 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sequel became the first tentpole to exclusively hit theaters after months of being shut down due to the global health crisis. It grossed $297 million throughout its theatrical run and scored 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Apart from the third installment in the franchise, Krasinski is also involved in another project that he is directing. Titled “If,” the movie, which stars Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Krasinski, is set to come out in 2023.

Meanwhile, another sequel announced at the Paramount investor day this week was the third installment in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise. The announcement was made ahead of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s” release on April 8, according to Variety.

The first “Sonic” film that came out in 2020 was a huge success, earning $319 million globally.
