According to a latest rumor, actress Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's spilt was causing complications among the celebrities who were mutual friends of the couple, as they were being forced to choose one side over the other. The rumor was debunked by Gossip Cop.

The false gossip was brewed by the tabloid Grazia, which chose to build its baseless narrative on the fact that while Aniston attended Netflix’s pre-Emmys party Sept. 15, her estranged husband Theroux was nowhere to be seen, despite the fact that “A Girl On The Train” actor starred in the site’s latest show “Maniac.”

The tabloid cited an anonymous source who claimed Theroux’s absence was a direct result of the “Friends” alum’s request.

“Jen made it clear that she would prefer that Justin was not in attendance,” the insider said. “It’s an ongoing headache for their respective teams as Jen is doing increasingly more TV work on Netflix and so their paths are inevitably entwined going forward.”

The unnamed insider did not stop there. He or she went onto claim the couple’s split had created a “logistical nightmare” for their mutual friends in Hollywood, as the celebrities who were once close to both of them were being forced to get divided into teams, adding, in the near future, those friends “will be showing who has remained loyal to who, especially when they’re out on the showbiz party circuit in the months to come.”

Then, in a premise that was reminiscent of Team Edward and Team Jacob from the movie saga “Twilight,” the insider went onto list names of celebrities on the teams of Aniston and Theroux. According to the tabloid, “Team Jen” included George Clooney, Ellen DeGeneres, Adam Sandler and Jason Bateman; and “Team Justin” included Emma Stone, Sienna Miller and Aubrey Plaza.

“Justin is aware that Jen is being quite territorial when it comes to her clique,” the insider continued, as part of its so-called scoop.

However, none of the claims of the insider, touted by Grazia, were true. According to Gossip Cop, Theroux attended the world premiere of “Maniac” in London just two days before the Emmys party and that was the real reason behind his absence from the event. Also, there was no reason for the actor to be present at the pre-Emmys bash as “Maniac” was a new series and hence, did not qualify for this year’s awards.

Also, every celebrity listed under either of the imaginary teams were spotted with both Aniston and Theroux over the recent months, after the couple’s split, meaning the rumor that some of them were supporting one party over the other was not true.

Lastly, in a New York Times interview last week, Theroux shut down rumors that the couple harbored feelings of resentment toward each other.

“The good news is that was probably the most — I’m choosing my words really carefully — it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity,” he said. “Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other. It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be.”

He also acknowledged he was quite “proud” that he and his estranged wife had managed to stay cordial throughout the split.
