The teaser trailer for the highly anticipated fourth installment of the "Resident Evil" animated movie series has been released. The upcoming "Resident Evil: Death Island" will see the franchise's popular characters — Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine — coming together for the first time.

The franchise is based on a horror video game and it has already released three animated feature movies, which are 2008's "Resident Evil: Degeneration," 2012's "Resident Evil: Damnation" and 2017's "Resident Evil: Vendetta."

"Resident Evil: Death Island" will mark the fourth installment of the franchise that is slated to release this summer in theatre. The teaser trailer was shared Tuesday on Twitter by the official handle of the franchise.

The teaser trailer starts with an evil man beating up another one and the next scene shows Leon, who works as a federal agent in the Division of Security Operations (DSO), heading toward Alcatraz Island.

A quick glimpse of Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance Chris and Special Operations Agent (SOA) of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Jill is also shown in the teaser.

Directed by Eiichiro Hasumi based on a screenplay penned by Makoto Fukami, the upcoming animated movie is a remake of the 2005's game "Resident Evil 4."

Fans shared their excitement in the comments section, considering the characters will be coming on the screen after so many years.

"#JillValentineIsBack after 14 years to the timeline since 2009," one of the fans wrote. "You have no idea how much this makes me happy, she's my own role model since I was 4 years old. I just can't wait for this summer!"

Another fan noted that Jill's screen time in the teaser was less compared to Chris and Leon and they are worried if it is going to be the same in the entire movie as well.

"Im really started to be tired to see Chris and Leon but AT LEAST Jill are finally in [sic]," the fan wrote. "But im just scared that she will have just 1-2 minute of screentime since the whole trailer are focused on the usual two males only [sic]."

The upcoming installment will be distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment worldwide, except in Japan. The release date of the movie is yet to be announced.
