The North Carolina man who allegedly murdered a woman in a road rage attack on March 25 has been arrested, authorities said.

Police arrested Dejywan Floyd, 29, at a Lumberton apartment complex on Thursday at around 12:30 a.m. in connection with the death of 47-year-old Julie Eberly of Manheim, Pennsylvania, Fox News reported. Floyd was charged with first degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property in what was described as a road rage encounter.

Eberly and her husband, Ryan Eberly, were on their way to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary and meet friends when their GMC Yukon came close to hitting Floyd's Chevrolet Malibu while trying to merge into a lane on I95, north of Lumberton, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office said.

Floyd pulled his car alongside the passenger side of the Eberlys' SUV, rolled down his window, and fired multiple shots into the vehicle. The suspect then drove off at exit 22, according to witnesses.

The mother of six suffered a gunshot wound when Floyd opened fire. Her husband was uninjured. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and performed immediate medical treatment on Eberly. She was then transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, but later died.

Leading up to Floyd's arrest, Eberly's family and the community worked together to find the gunman. Locals put up a $20,000 reward for any information leading to Floyd. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins attributed the arrest to the cooperation of local authorities and the community.

"The surveillance footage provided to investigators by dozens of cooperating businesses and residents were critical elements in the tracking of Floyd’s path in Cumberland County prior to the shooting and throughout Lumberton and beyond after the shooting," Wilkins said. "I am proud of the investigative work put forth by the law enforcement agencies that came together as one to bring this case to a successful conclusion."

He added, "Regardless of circumstances, no one deserved to be murdered while traveling our nations [sic] highways."

Floyd was placed in the custody of the Robeson County Detention Center without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
