  • According to an Amazon leak, "The Last of Us Part 2" will be released on June 26, 2020.
  • The game has been delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic
  • Sony and Naughty Dog, however, are yet to address the rumor

“The Last of Us Part 2” has been delayed, but it might not be for too long if a recent Amazon leak is to be believed.

On April 2, Sony and Naughty Dog confirmed that the release of the game has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The game publisher and developer cited logistical challenges as the reason for the delay and highlighting that it's highly unlikely the game will be shipped to customers on time due to the health crisis.

“The Last of Us Part 2” was initially scheduled for a May 29 release.

However, in a recent posting by Amazon (via GameRant), the game’s new launch date was listed as June 26, 2020 – less than one month from the original release schedule.

Sure enough, the leak should be taken with a grain of salt. Sony is yet to confirm the official release date, and it is possible that Amazon may have just mistakenly input it in their post. For what it’s worth, Amazon France recently made headlines for incorrectly listing that the “The Last of Us Part 2” will be released on PC.

However, there is also reason to believe that the game could indeed be released on June 26. Naughty Dog exec Neil Druckmann recently sent out a tweet saying that they “are working hard with Sony” to release the game as soon as possible.

Moreover, in their previous statement, Naughty Dog confirmed that the game is nearing completion and that they are just fixing the final bugs.

The release of “The Last of Us Part 2” will likely depend on how fast the world can resolve the coronavirus crisis, which has shut down businesses and crippled the economy. If the situation returns to normal by May or June, then it is possible the highly anticipated adventure game would be released sooner rather than later.

“Even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues,” Naughty Dog explained in their statement.
