  • Sony is issuing refunds for customers who pre-ordered "The Last of Us part 2" digitally
  • The game has been delayed indefinitely due to coronavirus
  • Naughty Dog, however, confirmed the game is nearing completion

With the future of “The Last of Us Part 2” still uncertain, Sony decided to refund those who pre-ordered the game digitally.

In a banner announcement on PlayStation support, the game publisher wrote: “The Last of Us Part II and Iron Man VR have been delayed. All digital pre-order consumers will automatically receive a refund.”

They also noted that customers eligible for the refund will receive an e-mail on how to get their money back.

There is still no new release date for the action-adventure game as the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage around the world. Given the situation, it is impossible for Sony and game developer Naughty Dog to give a specific timeline of release – thus, the refunds.

Last week, Sony announced that both “The Last of Us Part 2” and “Iron Man VR” will be delayed indefinitely. The entertainment and tech giant cited that they are facing huge logistical hurdles due to the coronavirus, which forced them to cancel the release of the games.

The latest installment in “The Last of Us” series was initially slated for a May 29 launch before the announcement of the delay.

Naughty Dog, in a separate statement, shared their disappointment over the news. However, they assured fans that the game is in development and is in fact nearing completion – with just the final bugs being fixed.

“Even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction,” the Naughty Dog statement reads.

“We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.”

The statement, however, noted that the whole development team is hoping that it will not be a long delay, suggesting that the game could still be released sometime this 2020.

“The Last of Us Part 2” is a PlayStation 4-exclusive game. Previously, it was scheduled for a February 2020 release before Sony and Naughty Dog moved it to May due to quality concerns. Now, it is delayed for a second time.
