Ryan Gosling is joining the monster universe in the “Wolfman” reboot.

Universal has successfully relaunched its monster universe following Elisabeth Moss’ “The Invisible Man.” The studio is pushing for another one by developing the reboot of “Wolfman” which will be top-billed by Gosling.

Sources told Variety that the executives at Universal have been meeting with directors over the past month. In fact, they are expected to announce the director soon.

There is no frontrunner at the moment. However, “Bad Education” director Cory Finley is reportedly among those who are being considered for the job.

The “Wolfman” reboot will be based on Gosling’s original pitch. It is written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who also wrote for Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.”

Gosling’s take on the character is reportedly in line with the studio’s new vision for its monster movies. Universal wanted an interconnected universe with its vast catalog of monster IP.

Studio insiders believe that loosening the universe restrictions allows more opportunities for the next monster movie. They are hoping that the the upcoming flicks will do good like “The Invisible Man,” which only cost $7 million but made $122 million at the box office before movie theaters were forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the “First Man” star will also be taking another astronaut role in MGM’s “Project Hail Mary.” It is a movie adaptation of Andy Weir’s book. Weir is also the author of Matt Damon’s “The Martian.”

The upcoming thriller movie follows an astronaut on a spaceship who has the job of saving the planet. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing and producing the movie.

“All of us at MGM are incredibly excited by this literal dream team coming together around Andy’s astounding novel. With their masterful ability to balance drama, action, and humor, Phil and Chris are the perfect filmmakers to take on this unique material and we are thrilled to have them partner with Ryan, Ken, Andy, Amy and Aditya to bring this movie to life for big screens everywhere,” said De Luca and Pamela Abdy, MGM film group president.
