  • A new leak claims Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Flip on Feb. 11
  • The alleged release date comes less than a week after the new Razr arrives
  • Samsung's new device offers better specs and a lower price compared to the Motorola handset

A new leak reveals that Samsung's upcoming clamshell, the Galaxy Z Flip, will be released just a few days after Motorola's Razr reboot arrives. Is this true?

Previous reports said Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on Feb. 11. The Korean tech giant is expected to unveil a slew of new devices during this event. These devices include the three models in the new Galaxy S20 lineup (Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra), as well as the new Galaxy Buds+, which is tipped to come with every Galaxy S20+ and S20 Ultra preorder.

Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip, the company's second foldable smartphone, during Unpacked. This device is obviously meant to compete against Motorola's new Razr in both form and pricing. Earlier reports also claimed that the Korean company's clamshell offers better specs than the latter, which means it might be the better choice.

Now, a new leak indicates that the Razr should expect to face even tighter competition. According to a tweet from XDA Developers' Max Weinbach, the Galaxy Z Flip “will likely launch on February 14th.” Will Samsung's device be a better buy compared to the Razr?

Here are some reasons why the Galaxy Z Flip might be the better buy:

A more powerful processor

Unlike the midrange Razr, the Galaxy Z Flip is tipped to feature a Snapdragon 855 SoC, which puts it in the same league as the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series. It might not be a next-gen chipset, but it's still better than the Snapdragon 710 inside the Razr.

A foldable glass display

The Galaxy Z Flip is also said to feature Samsung's Ultra Thin Glass display. This glass screen cover is flatter and has less wrinkles compared to the Razr's plastic screen, which might show bumps and lumps.

Bigger storage and battery

Samsung's foldable is said to feature 256GB of internal storage, and might have a 3,300mAh or 3,500mAh battery. The Razr, on the other hand, has 128GB of internal storage and a 2,510mAh battery.

Cameras

The Galaxy Z Flip is said to feature a 12MP main sensor and a 10MP selfie camera. The Razr, on the other hand, offers a 16MP main shooter (with some interesting software features) and a 5MP selfie camera. The Razr clearly offers the better camera setup among the two.

Pricing

As reported earlier, Samsung's device will be cheaper than the Razr. Previous estimates, however, were wrong – Weinbach said the Galaxy Z Flip will sell for $1,400 per unit, instead of the $800 that was said earlier. This is still cheaper compared to the $1,500 Razr.
