Christmas in July is extending to August this year, thanks to Jennifer Stone (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) and Devon Werkheiser’s (“Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide”) upcoming holiday rom-com, “Santa Girl.”

The full Blayne Weaver-directed movie won’t be gifted to viewers until Aug. 30, but there’s a two-minute stocking stuffer of a trailer (watch above) for everyone to enjoy right now.

In the film, Cassie (Stone), the daughter of Santa Claus (Barry Bostwick, “Spin City”), wants to leave the North Pole to attend college out in the real world, but her father’s not so sure about the idea, especially since he’s still recovering from the loss of Mrs. Claus. Finally, she’s able to wear him down, and she’s off to see what life is like amongst the non-magical folk.

As this is the first time Cassie will be outside of the North Pole, she’ll have to learn to “navigate this strange new world while keeping the identity of her iconic father (and her own magic) a secret,” according to the synopsis.

She won’t have to figure it all out on her own, though, as she begins a friendship, and possibly more, with fellow student Sam (Werkheiser).

Although this is the first movie Disney alum Stone and Nickelodeon alum Werkheiser have worked on together, the two were actually friends prior to filming.

“Devon and I have actually been friends for years, from before, so I knew him before this project,” Stone told International Business Times while shooting the movie in late 2017. “It’s been so much fun. Any time you get the chance to work with your friend, it’s like you’re not even working.”

The film was written by Patricia Harrington (“The Secrets of Emily Blair”) and is a co-production between Capital Arts Entertainment and Shenandoah University. Paul DiFranco, Mike Elliott, Joe Genier, Rob Kerchner and Greg Holstein are producers on the movie, while Glenn Anderson, an instructor at Shenandoah University, is a co-producer.

Also, to Stone’s delight, more than 60 of the university’s students were involved in the production, either as part of the crew or the cast.

“The cool part is it’s really neat because you get to see the excitement of someone who isn’t jaded by the business,” Stone told IBT of working alongside the students. “I’ve been doing it since I was a kid, I’ve just been acting and on set my whole life and so it’s been really cool to see that excitement and that newness.”
