An 18-year-old boy in Italy, who stabbed his abusive father 24 times to save his mother from an assault, has been charged with murder and is facing 20 years in prison.

On April 30, 2020, the teen, identified as Alex Pompa, stabbed his 52-year-old father to death to save his mother from a violent outburst. He then called the police and confessed to the crime. The incident took place in the municipality of Collegno.

Investigation revealed the father was obsessive and jealous, and had been abusing his wife for years. He would call her multiple times a day to check on her, Ladbible reported.

On April 30 evening, Pompa sent a message to his uncle saying he feared the man would become violent again.

"You are the only one who listens. You have to take drastic action. Here we all risk our lives," he wrote in the text, Ladbible reported.

Hours later, the father started attacking his wife, claiming to have seen a man putting his hand on her shoulder. He started assaulting her and also threw a phone at her. That was when Pompa, who was 17 years old, intervened and stabbed his father multiple times with a kitchen knife, The Scottish Sun reported.

Following the incident, Pompa was put under house arrest. He cleared his school final exams with flying colors and also got into an esteemed university. He was praised by several ministers, including Lucia Azzolina, the Minister of Public Education at the time.

The prosecutors have now confirmed they will be going ahead with the trial. He was charged with voluntary murder Tuesday and his defense has 20 days to make an appeal. He now faces 20 years in prison in connection with the case.

The incident comes months after a 15-year-old boy teenager in Zimbabwe killed his abusive stepfather to protect his mother. The woman caught her husband red-handed at his girlfriend’s home following which the two got into a heated argument. Fearing the stepfather would harm his father, the teen struck his father on the head with an iron rod. The teen was arrested and charged with murder.
