The trailer of the latest "Scream" sequel has dropped, revealing the return of original cast members -- Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette.

The trailer begins with a landline ringing and actress Jenna Ortega, who plays Tara, avoiding the unknown number. Meanwhile, she receives a text saying she should answer the call.

Upon receiving the call, a man asked, "Would you like to play a game?" The next scene shows the killer breaking into the house and the bloodshed begins.

Here are some screenshots from the trailer’s opening scene.

The original characters - Sidney Prescott played by Campbell, Gale Weathers played by Cox and Deputy Dewey Riley played by Arquette - are worried about the Ghostface killer targeting young people.

"I’ve been through this…a lot," Campbell said in the trailer as she prepares to face the killer.

"It’s happening. Three attacks so far," Arquette tells Campbell on the phone. Arquette asks, "Do you have a gun?" to which Campbell replies, "I’m Sidney Prescott, of course, I have a gun."

The trailer ends with Campbell entering a house as the killer silently waits inside.

"Do you like scary movies? Watch the NEW trailer for #ScreamMovie - Only in theatres January 14, 2022," the official Twitter handle of "Scream" captioned the trailer.

A synopsis of the movie was posted following the trailer release. "Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro. A new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past," it read.

Another tweet confirmed that there are "multiple versions" of the movie, which means whatever viewers have seen in this trailer, might not make it to the final cut.

"If you think they spoiled too much, think again!" the caption read.

The first installment of the franchise, which was helmed by director Wes Craven, was released in 1996. In November 2020, Cox shared a throwback photo with Craven, noting that the filming of the fifth "Scream" installment just wrapped.

"Scream" is slated to release only in theatres on Jan. 14, 2022.
