Shepard Smith has become familiar to Fox News viewers throughout the past 23 years, but later this year he is slated to start earning new fans on CNBC. Once he makes the move, he will begin hosting "The News With Shepard Smith" and serving as chief general news anchor and chief breaking general news anchor for the network.

Following Smith's unexpected exit from Fox News in 2019, speculation followed the former "Shepard Smith Reporting" host regarding whether or not he would join rival networks MSNBC or CNN. However, a noncompete clause kept Smith from immediately taking on a new project outside of Fox, as reported by CNN.

"Under our agreement, I won't be reporting elsewhere, at least in the near feature," he said during his final show, adding that he was looking forward to "what comes along."

Now, Smith is gearing up to officially begin his new hosting duties at another channel in the NBC News Group umbrella, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While details about the new show will reportedly begin slowly emerging over the next few months, CNBC has revealed that they intend on setting aside the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. time slot for "The News With Shepard Smith" starting this fall. Previously, they had allowed that hour to be used for breaking news special reports that centered around the markets and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, along with other shows related to business, such as "Shark Tank."

At this time, it remains unclear how much CNBC will move towards a right-wing commentary, but Smith's addition does indicate that they will be opening up their lineup to a wider variety of viewpoints throughout the rest of 2020. His first day at CNBC will be July 13.

"The News With Shepard Smith" will air Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. EDT on CNBC beginning this fall.
