Good food may be a big part of any cruise ship experience. But the amount of food carried in a cruise ship even for a short duration week-long trip will sound astounding.

As passengers insist on the best grub, cruise ships oblige by stacking good volumes to keep the guests well –fed.

All mainstream cruise lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean International have the repute of offering relatively better free food on cruises.

According to cruise news, jaw-dropping volumes of food and drink are carried in a cruise ship even if it is a week-long expedition.

The new data on the type of food and volumes that are carried in cruise ships could be mind-blowing.

Big volumes of food are justified in many ways. Cruise ship guests are a hungry lot.

The cruise combines both adventure and leisure. The trigger of hunger comes from the high exertion during day time where time is spent exploring far-flung areas and shopping while nights are spent on board braving the chill winds.

So the appetite for the food stays high.

Data on weekly food stock for Caribbean cruise

New research has revealed the total amount of food and beverage consumed in just 7 days in a weeklong Caribbean tour. Travel Insurance provider Admiral explored this and found a typical week-long Caribbean cruise carries 100 tonnes of food and drink onboard every trip.

Indulging in rich foods and snacks is part of the holiday experience. According to Cosmin Sarbu, Head of Travel Insurance at Admiral, the whopping figures are just the tip of the iceberg.

Alcohol is well stocked in most ships. The study says approximately 16,862 liters of alcohol is maintained that can fill 169 bathtubs.

Meanwhile, even the volume of coffee stocked comes to 861kg which can make 119,721 hot cups each morning to serve sleepy travelers.

The individual break up of food in a cruise ship's stock goes like this.

· 21,000 ice cream cones

· 66,550 pastries

· 10,650 hot dogs

· 7,100 burgers

The ship has 250 onboard chefs to handle the stock and make them into memorable meals for the guests.

Under the cruise packages, cruisers are not required to spend a single penny on food onboard. This is because all mainstream cruise ships offer three meals a day in their main dining rooms and cruise buffets.

But the menu of a cruise ship is important.

According to a majority of British cruisers who come on cruise deals, food constitutes a core part of the travel experience. This is buttressed by 77 percent of holidaymakers in saying they prefer to eat more on holiday.

On cruise trips, guests are spoilt by the vast choice of food including beverages. From a coffee in the morning to red wine in the evening, the great choice exists for holidaymakers from dawn to dusk.

But the presence of additional venues in the cruise ships has also erupted complaints on the quality of free food as added-fee restaurants assert their space.
