A CCTV footage showed the terrifying moment when a sidewalk collapsed Wednesday and swallowed two women in the city of Diyarbakir, Turkey.

The women, Dr. Suzan Kuday Balik and nurse Ozlem Duymaz, had just left the health center where they were working when the incident occurred.

The shocking CCTV footage that has gone viral on social media shows the two women walking along the pavement before stopping to talk to each other. Within moments, the pavement collapses under their feet and they are swallowed by the gaping hole.

Passersby are seen rushing to help them out of the wreckage. The women escaped the incident with minor injuries despite being buried by the rubble.

According to local media, the two were taken to a nearby hospital and discharged after being treated for some minor injuries. The area was sealed off and the police and fire department were investigating why the sinkhole opened up.

The security footage released by Turkish security forces has gone viral after being shared thousands of times.

A sinkhole was a large opening that occurred suddenly in the ground, and can be caused by erosion underneath the ground's surface, which was mostly due to poor drainage of water.

In a similar incident in August, a massive sink hole swallowed four pedestrians after a pavement collapsed in Dazhou city, Sichuan province, China. The sinkhole was formed after a large portion of a pavement gave way outside a local hospital.

People walking on the busy street were swallowed by the sinkhole in a matter of seconds, after which the area was sealed off and the traffic was diverted away from the area for rescue operations.

The sinkhole grew bigger as the rescue operations continued and the second collapse around the same spot resulted in concrete materials falling into the wreckage. Following the second collapse, a boy fell into the pit but escaped with just mild injuries after being rescued by passerby. The other four pedestrians were also rescued by the emergency staff and taken to a nearby hospital.
