"So You Think You Can Dance" Season 12 hopefuls in Los Angeles pose before their round of auditions. Now in Las Vegas, "SYTYCD" hopefuls will have their work cut out for them if they want to make it through the next round of auditions. Fox

The stakes are going to be kicked up a notch as “So You Think You Can Dance” sends dancers from around the country to Las Vegas for the next round of auditions. Over 200 hopefuls braced themselves for the hardest rounds of auditions so far. Only 10 stage dancers and 10 street dancers will make it out of Vegas to compete in “SYTYCD” Season 12.

Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo minced no words and started the competition right away. They previewed 10 dancers at a time, asking them to perform their solos with no feedback as each took the stage one-by-one. After a set of 10 performed, the judges along with the team mentor would help select who would continue on. The process began to cull down the teams before heading into the grueling rounds of choreography.

The lovable couple from Detroit auditions, street dancer Tyrell Noll and stage dancer Kelly MacCoy, returned to dance a step forward in the “SYTYCD” competition. The pair was married by an Elvis impersonator at the Little White Chapel before Las Vegas auditions began. But wedding bells did not ensure the honeymoon would last as Noll was cut while MacCoy was still in the running to make it into the “SYTYCD” Season 12 top 20.

Wall took first round of choreography for his stage team and warned his dancers to connect to the music and movement of their steps. Not everyone was able to keep up and more favorites were cut from the stage team.

However on the street team, tWitch was enjoying the success of his female dancers, who were clearly dominating the category. After a scary start to Vegas week, Kenya “Queen of Detroit” Sutton bounced back to the delight of the judges. Choreographer Jamal Sims of “Step Up” fame ran the dancers through their first formal steps. Unfortunately many like Bronx b-girl Samantha Reyes met her match in the steps and lost their chance to move on to “So You Think You Can Dance” glory.

Anxiety was running high, and some contestants began to crack under the pressure. Lil’ B suffered an excruciating cut after a second attempt to appease the judges. Animator and Bill Gates lookalike Steven Ban also did not make the judges’ cut. Who will be left standing after Vegas? “So You Think You Can Dance” fans will have to stay tuned to see who else will make it to the next round.

As a bonus for fans looking forward to “Magic Mike XXL,” “So You Think You Can Dance” mentor tWitch offered a little preview at the end of the show. He joined the hotly anticipated sequel starring Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello. “Magic Mike XXL” is out in theaters nationwide July 1.

“So You Think You Can Dance” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
