Mobile Technology: More Phones than Humans by 2016, Data Demand at Feverish Pitch

Mobile devices may soon outnumber humans reports BBC News. Statistics from Cisco's latest alanysis of global mobile traffic predicts that there will be roughly 10 billion connected mobile devices by 2016. The world currently has a little more than 7 billion people according to National Geographic, who reported extensively on the growing stress people are placing on the Earth.

Between 2011 and 2016 the amount of mobile data traffic will grow at a compound annual rate of 78 percent as the number of mobile devices connected to the Internet exceeds the number of people on Earth in four years' time, according to a study by Cisco Systems Inc.
