The OnePlus 6T is quite possibly one of the best smartphones this year, but that doesn’t mean that it’s free from any technical issues. Some OnePlus 6T owners are claiming that their units are having weird waves of static on the display.

A number of OnePlus 6T owners are complaining about the display problem on the official OnePlus forums. The problem is described as having a wave of pixels turning pink or purple throughout the screen. One user said that the problem would typically occur right after unlocking the phone. This doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue, but it may have the potential to become a huge problem. Someone on YouTube posted a short video showing exactly what this display static looks like.

For users experiencing the problem, it looks like there’s no way to fix it, even if they initiate a factory reset on the OnePlus 6T, as pointed out by Android Police. No one has been able to pinpoint what’s causing the problem and OnePlus hasn’t provided any information on whether or not it will be fixed through a software update.

OnePlus is no stranger to having display issues on its smartphones. Last year, some OnePlus 5 units experienced a “jelly scrolling” issue that made content on the screen to appear wobbling while scrolling up and down. OnePlus investigated the problem, but it didn’t provide a fix because it was said to be “natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices.”

This new static display problem on the OnePlus 6T is fortunately only affecting a small number of people based on the number of reports. It also looks like the issue isn’t persistent and only occurs sporadically. Some may just learn to ignore it. If this is software related, OnePlus could just send out a fix through an update.

In related news, the phone maker recently announced that it has partnered with the British auto company McLaren. It’s expected that the two companies will release a special edition of the 6T next month called the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. The upcoming new variant of the 6T will arrive with 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, according to a leak by MySmartPrice.

If the leak is accurate, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition would be the very first OnePlus phone to have 10GB of RAM. For comparison, the standard OnePlus 6T only comes with 6GB of RAM, while the current top-tier model comes with 8GB of RAM. It’s widely believed that the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will launch on Dec. 11 in the U.K. Pricing remains a mystery, but it’s very likely that it will cost more than the 8GB RAM model of the 6T.
