Disney recently parted ways with Sony in terms of making Spider-Man films. While many fans are worried what this means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Sony has a chance to take advantage of producing more Spider-Man video games for years to come.

Disney has decided to not let Kevin Feige continue to play the role of lead producer in the next live-action Spider-Man films as confirmed in an exclusive report published by The Hollywood Reporter. Feige has long been part of the successful films under the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Disney studio chief Alan Horn and Sony studio chief Tom Rothman couldn’t agree on the financial split for the income of the next Spider-Man film.

Since Disney and Sony parted ways in the movie-producing aspect of the Spider-Man franchise, fans can expect to see standalone Spider-Man films disconnected from the story of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

However, Sony has just purchased Insomniac Games and placed one of the studios under its creative wing. Insomniac Games made “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” which was released last year. The game was a smash hit not only to many hardcore PlayStation fans but also to Spider-Man fans. Having said this, Sony has a big chance to make more Spider-Man video game storylines without necessarily asking Disney for more characters from the Marvel universe.

Insomniac is also confirmed to be interested in making more games with the Spider-Man franchise. With Sony having this developer under its wing, another Spider-Man game could possibly be coming soon.

As Sony and Disney ended their deal on the use of the character in MCU films, many fans are now upset and vocally voicing their concerns against Sony on Twiter. The hashtag “#BoycottSony” is now circulating on the social media space as many fans cry out to bring back Spider-Man to the MCU once again.

Prior to the MCU’s inclusion of Spider-Man, fans often found the prior Spider-Man films to be either enjoyable or mediocre. Many fans do not want this to happen again, so they are asking for Spider-Man to be part of the MCU.

As Sony goes solo with Spider-Man, the company might be leaning in to make more “Spider-Verse” themed stories once again. The company received massive success with the “Spider-Man: Into The Spider Verse” animated movie. For now, we’ll have to wait for the next live-action film and the Sony-Insomniac Games title that’ll be teased, hopefully, soon.
