A disturbing video showing a stray dog nibbling at the dead body of a girl at a hospital in India has surfaced online recently. The girl's family is blaming the hospital for negligence.

A 20-second video going viral on social media showed a canine gnawing at a dead body that was left unattended on a stretcher. The body was covered with a white cloth. The incident took place in a government hospital in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

Local reports said the girl was a victim of a road accident and her body was allegedly left unattended for over an hour inside the hospital.

"The body of the girl was left unattended for 1.5 hours. It is a matter of negligence on the hospital's part. No one was there to look after the body," the girl's father told Indian news agency ANI.

The chief medical superintendent of the hospital told ANI that he had informed the local authorities about dog menace in its premises, but they took no action. He added that the girl's body must have been left unattended for a few minutes when the incident took place.

"The body was handed over to the family after formalities. They didn't want an autopsy and were taking it away. They might have left the body unattended for a minute when it happened. I wrote to local authorities about the stray dog menace but to no avail," Dr. Sushil Verma told ANI.

Two staff members have been suspended in connection with the incident.

"We found out the sweeper and ward boy were responsible. They too had had a lot of bodies to deal with. However, we have suspended them. And we have sought an explanation from the doctor that was on emergency duty along with the pharmacist. We have also formed a committee to investigate the matter," the doctor added.

The incident comes months after a stray dog mauled a newborn baby to death inside the operation theater of a hospital in the same state. The boy was found lying on the floor with bite marks all over the body. A case was filed against the owner of the hospital.
