“Supergirl” star Katie McGrath said that viewers will likely see more of Lena and James’ dynamic in Season 3 of the CW series.

During a recent press visit on the Vancouver set of the show, McGrath implied that Lena (McGrath) and James’ (Mehcad Brooks) relationship will get even more complicated, adding that things between them will probably take center stage at some point in the season.

“It’s difficult for James [with Lena] coming in and owning the company (CatCo Worldwide Media), and him being the boss and now him not being the boss, but still [kind of being the boss],” McGrath said (via ComicBook.com). “You’ve got this sort of antagonism between the two of us that we’re still not quite sure of what our professional roles are. And then layered in on top of that, obviously, is the added fun of professional roles getting a little bit shady because of personal feelings. So I think as the season goes on that is going to come more into the forefront and I don't want to give anything away. So it’s that kind of dynamic between figuring out professional and personal relationships.”

While McGrath didn’t specify what those “personal feelings” are, one of those could be James’ personal bias against Lena. “Being who James is, he tries to give everybody a second chance or fresh start. However, there’s always this skepticism in the back of his head [when it comes to Lena]. She’s a Luthor,” Brooks told Entertainment Weekly last month. “Is she purposely doing this or that? James is probably the most skeptical of all out of everyone. The rest of them don’t know [her brother] Lex [Luthor], at least not the way James does.”

As viewers know, James is the best friend of Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin), aka Superman. And since Lex is one of the nemeses of the Man of Steel, it isn’t surprising that the acting CatCo CEO knows a thing or two about the Luthors.

On the other hand, those “personal feelings” McGrath mentioned could also be romantic in nature. During a roundtable interview at the San Diego Comic-Con last July, Brooks revealed that James is getting a new love interest in Season 3. “There’s a love interest that happens for James this season,” the actor said at the time (via Hidden Remote). When pressed to reveal more details — such as whether this mystery character is someone viewers have already met — Brooks politely refused.

But after James took a bullet for Lena in Season 3, episode 5, it seems that James’ new love interest is none other than the L-Corp CEO.
