Verizon Communications failed to gain market share against AT&T Inc in iPhone sales in its first full quarter selling Apple Inc's device, sending shares down as much as 3 percent.

Apple's star device iPad is the undisputed leader in the consumer segment of the tablet market and is now on the roll to capture the enterprise tablet segment as well.

Verizon didn't add as many iPhones as AT&T but did well financially in the second quarter regardless.

As of 10 a.m. (EDT), Verizon shares were down 2.85 percent to trade at $36.51 per share.
