Taron Egerton is once again rumored to be playing a big role in a sci-fi movie. Last year Egerton was supposedly in the running to play Cyclops in “X-Men: Apocalypse” (the role went to Tye Sheridan), and this year there's speculation the Brit will play a young Han Solo in a “Star Wars Anthology” film. But Egerton has not confirmed those reports.

During an appearance on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” a late-night show in the U.K., Egerton was asked if he was playing the young version of the character Harrison Ford made famous.

“I’ve heard this rumor, yes. I mean, I’ve seen the stuff on the Internet, and I think any lad of my age would kill to play a part like that,” he said. “It’s very, very flattering. I have no idea if there’s any truth in it, but I mean, Lucasfilm, Disney, if there is, then you know where I am.”

It doesn’t seem like the young Han Solo film, a standalone story in the “Star Wars” universe, has picked a lead yet. Actor Miles Teller hinted that he has auditioned for the movie. When asked about possibly playing the role, he confirmed that he met with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller at some point, but he didn’t exactly say if it was for a “Star Wars” film.

“I’ve met Lord and Miller before. There you go,” he said on the happysadconfused podcast. “I don’t know. If my career’s gonna come crashing down, it’s not going to be in your podcast.”

Egerton and Teller are on the shortlist of actors being considered for the part, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor, Ansel Elgort and Emory Cohen also auditioned.

The untitled young Han Solo film is scheduled to hit theaters May 25, 2018. Those eager for other “Star Wars Anthology” stories will be able to see “Rogue One,” another standalone film about a group who wants to steal plans for the Death Star, on Dec. 16.
