  • Swift still writes breakup songs because she always has a friend going through a split

Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney got candid about their personal lives when they interviewed each other for Rolling Stone's new cover story. Swift also opened up about her romance with boyfriend Joe Alwyn and why she still writes breakup songs.

During their chat, Swift discussed her song, "Peace," off this year's "Folklore" album, saying it was rooted in her personal life. Talking about the song's theme, she praised McCartney for doing a "really excellent job" at bringing peace into his own personal life and "carving out a human life within a public life."

Swift recalled how his daughter, Stella, told the singer that she had a normal childhood despite having popular parents. McCartney said they made sure to keep their children’s feet on the ground.

As for Swift, she admitted that it has hard for her to achieve the same with paparazzi hiding "outside in the bushes" and following her every move. She added that she couldn't control the "fake weird headlines" about her and Alwyn in the news.

When asked if her partner can "sympathize with that and understand" with her A-lister lifestyle, Swift replied, "absolutely."

"But I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now, I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on in tabloids," Swift said about her relationship with Alwyn.

"Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture — the idea of privacy feels so strange to try to explain, but it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy. That’s what that song 'Peace' is talking about," she explained.

In their interview, McCartney also brought up the fact that Swift is known for "writing break up songs like they were going out of style." She laughed and said she still writes songs about failed romances even if her own relationship is going strong.

"I was, before my luck changed," the Grammy winner said of writing breakup songs. "I still write breakup songs. I love a good breakup song. Because somewhere in the world, I always have a friend going through a breakup, and that will make me write one.”

Aside from music, Swift is also known for using her platform to raise awareness about certain issues. She was among the celebrities who actively supported Joe Biden in the presidential election.

Based on a survey conducted by Whitman Insight Strategies and MRC Data, Swift came second to LeBron James as the most influential celebrities of the election.
