Taylor Swift has released dozens of music videos in her singer/songwriting career since 2006. The legendary pop star is known for music videos often of a whimsical nature, Swift in the woods, Swift in a mansion, Swift in a castle — each time paired with a dashing, mysterious gentleman.

Her newest music video for “The Man,” released Monday, is of a completely different style. Taken from her live performance at the 2019 City of Lover concert in Paris, Swift sings an acoustic version of the song while playing her guitar, People reported. She wears her signature red lipstick in the video and pairs it with black boots and a satin blazer.

The song, from her latest album “Lover,” is about all of the grievances women face in the music industry, but also arguably, in any industry.

“I’m so sick of running as fast as I can / wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man,” Swift sings in the chorus.

Near the end of the music video, she takes a long, dramatic pause after singing the line, “It’s ok that I’m mad.” As a result, the crowd roars in applause around her.

Speaking to Billboard last year, Swift had this to say about the message behind “The Man”:

“So many things that men do, you know, can be phoned-in that cannot be phoned-in for us. We have to really — God, we have to curate and cater everything, but we have to make it look like an accident. Because if we make a mistake, that’s our fault, but if we strategize so that we won’t make a mistake, we’re calculating."

As for what's next for the 30-year-old country-singer-turned-pop-star, she won’t be completing a typical concert tour for "Lover" and is instead offering fans a series of small festival-style concerts this summer.
