Rumors have been swirling about the reason Taylor Swift missed the 2020 Grammys. Among those rumors was that she didn't attend due to The Recording Academy being unable to confirm that she would win any awards ahead of time.

According to Us Weekly, the word was that Swift’s team contacted the Academy to confirm whether or not she would actually win. When they were unable to confirm any wins, she reportedly opted out of her performance.

However, The Recording Academy reportedly said on Thursday that this story isn’t true.

“The Recording Academy is unaware of such a conversation ever taking place,” the Academy said in a statement to the outlet. “It is also totally inconsistent with the interactions we’ve had with Taylor over the years.

Swift’s rep also released a statement to the same publication on Thursday. It said: “These statements made by anonymous, unidentified ‘sources’ are absolutely, 100 percent false and laughable. She just didn’t go to the Grammys. You guys need to calm down.”

A source close to Swift said the “Lover” singer simply chose to be with her family instead.

“She was never confirmed to perform at the Grammys,” the source said. “She was not going to be in attendance at the Grammys because she was spending time with her family and her mother, who has a brain tumor and whose cancer has returned.”

During her January interview with Variety, Swift spoke about the stress her mom Andrea Swift’s recurring cancer has caused their family.

“Everyone loves their mom; everyone’s got an important mom,” the "Cats" star explained. “But for me, she’s really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So obviously it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness...And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before. So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family.”

Although she did not win a 2020 Grammy, the 30-year-old was nominated for Song of The Year (“Lover”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“You Need to Calm Down”), and Best Pop Vocal Album (“Lover”).

Swift has not personally addressed the matter but shared an Instagram post on Friday announcing that her documentary "Miss Americana" is now available to stream on Netflix.
