A 16-year-old Malaysian teen was conferred with the Hang Tuah award by the Welfare Department of Kedah on Tuesday for saving his mother from a python.

The boy, identified as Muhammad Rasul, was playing outside his home with his younger brother and cousin in late May when he heard his mother screaming for help from inside the house. Upon hearing the screams, all the three teens rushed to the kitchen and found a huge python wrapped around the woman right from her legs to the torso.

Rasul immediately tried to untangle his mother while his cousin ran outside to get some help from the neighbors. The three teens then put in all their efforts to free the woman. After almost half an hour, the snake let go of the woman after Rasul chopped the reptile into two. The woman managed to escape with minimal injuries.

Recalling the incident, Rasul said, “Even if I am an OKU (Orang Kurang Upaya) and I have limited abilities, for my mother I will put aside all my fears to save her from being squeezed to death by that python.”

He added that he still can’t forget the incident and hopes that this doesn’t happen again.
