In December 2019, rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was sentenced to two years in prison regarding his involvement with a gang. Now, he has received his official release date.

According to the Page Six, the musician will be allowed to leave prison on Aug. 2, as stated by the Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. Initially, he was given his 24-month sentence for "his role in a racketeering conspiracy with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods," but with time served and cooperation with prosecutors, he will be allowed to leave later this year.

As for why the "Fefe" rapper got the green light to exit the facility ahead of schedule, Dawn Florio, a member of his legal team, told Complex that her client was "getting released early" because he's been the "perfect model prisoner."

The decision also comes on the heels of the musician's legal rep, Lance Lazzaro, predicting that his client's sentence would be completed by the end of July.

Prior to the decision, Tekashi had pleaded guilty and was facing decades in prison, but the aforementioned deal with prosecutors gave the judge the ability to impose whatever sentence he felt was appropriate.

In January, Lazzaro had then asked that the rapper be given the opportunity to complete the rest of his sentence at home. This, according to Page Six, was due to the rapper being unable to get credit for early release at the secret facility where he was serving time.

At the time, he explained to Manhattan federal court Judge Paul Engelmayer that he believed it would be the "most reasonable means to adjust" and help his client "prepare for his re-entry into the community." However, Engelmayer denied that request due to the fact that he felt the original sentence was meant to "reflect the seriousness of his crimes."

As for what's next following his release, 6ix9ine will have to complete 300 hours of community service and pay a fine of $35,000.
