  • A new report reveals that pickup trucks have a promising future based on the latest car sales

Tesla Cybertruck is one of the biggest reveals in the auto industry last year. Its polarizing design and revolutionary features earned praises and criticisms from car enthusiasts. But, it appears that the all-electric pickup truck from the US electric vehicle maker Tesla has a promising future if the recent car sales are to go by.

2019 was the year of the pickup truck based on the list of the most popular car purchases in every state in the US. While all-electric and hybrid pickup trucks are not yet available to consumers, companies like Tesla, Rivian, and Ford are preparing to release their respective versions of the popular vehicle sometime in the future. Tesla is aiming to launch its Cybertruck in 2021 and 2022, Rivian R1T is also coming soon, along with the electric version of Ford F-150.

If the truck-obsessed public can get into the electric version, things look promising not only for Tesla Cybertruck but also to other upcoming electric pickup truck, according to Mashable. Car shopping website IseeCars recently shared a report about car sales in the US in 2019. In all 22 states in the US, Ford F-150 is the most popular new vehicle, and it is even more popular as a used pickup truck, reveals the car shopping site.

Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tacoma trailed behind Ford-F150 as the next most popular vehicles. It is interesting to note that all of these vehicles on top of the list are pickup trucks. The report is good news for companies like Tesla, which has already unveiled its all-electric Cybertruck pickup.

Based on his previous tweets and comments, it is remarkable that Tesla CEO Elon Musk knows that Cybertruck’s main rival in the US, at least, is the Ford F-150. The CEO even made a lot of comparisons between the Ford F-150 and the Tesla Cybertruck to lure pickup truck lovers in the US to the electric side. Musk compares and contrasts both vehicles’ door strength, towing capabilities, and even their windows.

Following the official unveiling of the Tesla Cybertruck, it made 250,000 pre-orders or reservations. Amazon and Ford-backed Rivian R1T pickup truck, the closest electric pickup truck competitor of the Tesla Cybertruck, is coming by the end of this year and is also gaining a lot of attention and traction. Ford is promising that the electric version of the F-150 is coming in 2021.
