A mother in Texas issued a heartbreaking plea to return her infant's ashes after they were reportedly stolen by thieves during a break-in at the family's storage unit, reports said.

"Please return my daughter's ashes, that's all I have left of my daughter," Lily Nicol, the grieving mother of deceased 11-month-old Sa'Mya said, as reported by local news outlet KXAN.

Sa'Mya died in 2013 while the family was in Denver, Colorado. When Nicol moved to Texas last October, they stored the baby's ashes in a Public Storage at Round Rock and stayed with her relatives while they looked for a house.

Around a month back, Nicol received a call from the storage staff alerting her that the locks on her unit had been broken. But, the company assured Nicol that no theft had occurred and that they would replace the locks.

However, Nicol found the ashes were missing when she went to the storage unit on Jan. 20, as her family was moving to a new house. Nicol not only lost the baby's ashes, but also other valuables like televisions, and computers that were stored in the unit, NY Post reported.

"I noticed that we're missing a lot of items. We lost everything, including my daughter's ashes. I don't care about the other stuff — I just want her back," the grieving mother said.

Nicol filed a complaint with the Austin Police Department and requested anyone with information about the theft or knowledge of what happened to the ashes to come forward.

In a similar incident, three workers at a funeral home in China were arrested in 2012 for stealing the ashes of a dead woman. The incident happened in the Shandong province of Eastern China. The suspects reportedly plotted to perform the banned "ghost marriage" ritual, a superstitious practice of a marriage in which one or both parties are dead. The suspects, Shao, Leo, and Zhang were taken into custody and the woman's remains were reportedly recovered and returned to her family, reports said.
