  • Malik Halfacre shot and killed four people in Indianapolis
  • Halfacre argued with his ex-partner over who should get the stimulus check
  • Police officers recovered the couple's baby unharmed

An argument over the third round of stimulus checks worth $1,400 each led to a quadruple murder and a missing baby in Indianapolis Saturday night.

Police officers arrested Malik Halfacre, an ex-con, who shot and killed four people in the 300 Block of Randolph Street. The suspect was arrested 24 hours after the shooting and after a four-hour-long stand off with the SWAT team.

The suspect had reportedly gotten into an argument with his ex-partner, Jeanettrius Moore, Friday evening over who should get the $1,400 checks. Halfacre, the father of Moore’s youngest child, argued that he should receive half.

“He wanted some of Jeanettrius’ tax money, stimulus money,” Wendy Johnson, Moore’s cousin, told Fox 59. “She had just got her money, and he wanted half of her money.”

Moore, who worked at a beauty supply shop to support herself and her two daughters, refused to give her partner the whole check. She offered Halfacre $450, but he refused.

“She said, ‘No, you don’t deserve any of this. I work. I take care of our child. You don’t do anything,’" Johnson recounted.

“He said, ‘I’m gonna get that money’... This was the day before.”

Police reports found that Halfacre came back on Saturday evening to demand that Moore give him the money. When she refused, he began going through her purse. Daquan, Moore's brother, tried to stop Halfacre from rifling through his sister’s purse.

“Daquan was trying to save his sister. He was taking up for his sister,” Johnson recalled.

“He stood up and said, ‘You cannot have the money. You cannot have her money.’ That’s what she said and pushed Malik, and Malik pulled out the gun and just started killing everybody.”

Halfacre shot and killed 23-year-old Daquan; Moore's 35-year-old cousin, Anthony Johnson; her 44-year-old mother, Toomeka Brown; and 7-year-old daughter, Eve Moore.

The suspect then took Moore and her infant daughter to his car before reentering the murder site to retrieve a milk bottle.

“He went back in the house, and that’s when he shot Anthony again when he was coming down the steps,” said Johnson. “When he went in the house, that was Jeanettrius’ cue to run for her life, and that’s what she did. Ran for her life in traffic across New York Street and knocking on everyone’s doors.”

Moore hid on a neighbor’s porch until police officers arrived at the scene. However, Halfacre was able to run off with their baby. Police were able to recover the couple’s baby unharmed almost 24 hours after the killing.
