As President Donald Trump’s family made its way to the Capitol building Tuesday, where the POTUS was scheduled to deliver his State of the Union speech (SOTU), one member stood out in particular due to her choice of outfit for the evening – Tiffany Trump.

Unlike her sister Ivanka or stepmother Melania, who chose to wear darker ensembles, Tiffany, a 25-year-old student at Georgetown Law School, chose to don a white, monochromatic dress, paired with a beige belt. She was all smiles as she walked into the historic building and took her seat in the House chamber across the aisle from stepsister-in-law Lara, Ivanka, and stepbrother-in-law Jared Kushner.

Before doing so, she also posed with the rest of her family for a group picture.

Her outfit created quite a buzz on social media because of the fact that the House Democratic Women’s Working Group had declared ahead of the SOTU address they would be wearing all white as a tribute to the suffragette movement of the 20th century and as a way to show solidarity for women’s rights.

“By wearing suffragette white to #SOTU2019 tmrw we're sending a message to everyone that voted for @HouseDemocrats & delivered us the majority that we're working #ForThePeople, promoting the economic security of women & their families!” Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Florida), the chairwoman of the group, wrote in a tweet Monday.

Hours before the speech was supposed to start, dozens of Democratic lawmakers gathered at the Capitol to take a picture in their white dresses.

So naturally, when Tiffany was seen in white, social media users wondered whether it was a deliberate dig at her father or she secretly aligned herself with the views of the Democratic party which she was showing with her outfit. Here are some reactions from Twitter.

Just like Tiffany, the first lady’s choice of outfit to SOTU had made headlines last year. She had donned a white pantsuit on the occasion – an attire which was a known favorite of former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Some were of the opinion that Melania’s outfit was a shout out to the suffragette movement in the wake of the news of Trump's lawyer arranging a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels making the rounds in the media. Others wondered whether it was to counter the choice of many Democratic women in Congress, who showed up in black to show solidarity with the “Me Too” and “Time’s Up” movements against sexual misconduct.

This year, however, Melania’s outfit was more of a fashion statement as she paired it up with a single black glove. At the same time, Ivanka wore a $5,000 military-inspired outfit by British designer Alexander McQueen.

Apart from Tiffany's outfit, the president’s tie also managed to grab the attention of social media, due to the fact that it was crooked.
