  • Tom Holland said Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will not appear in "Spider-Man 3"
  • Holland said Garfield and Maguire's involvement is too big to be kept a secret from him
  • "Spider-Man 3" will be the continuation of the first two movies they filmed

Tom Holland has no idea about the rumors claiming that former "Spider-Man" stars Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would join him in the third installment of his superhero movie.

Before Holland became "Spider-Man," Maguire and Garfield donned the costume of the superhero. Last year, there were speculations that the previous "Spider-Man" stars would return to the Spiderverse and Holland addressed the matter in his cover story for Esquire's March 2021 issue.

"No, no, they will not be appearing in this film," Holland said when asked about Maguire and Garfield's rumored appearance in the movie. "Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the ‘Spider-Man’ movies that we’ve been making."

However, Holland also said he has no idea what the movie is about even after months of filming it.

"I honestly have no idea what this film is about. And I’m eight weeks into shooting it," he said when asked about the film.

Holland may have been telling the truth or just avoiding spoiling the film. He had a history of spoiling films and had already learned his lesson.

"I know everything now. I had my big pitch meeting with Marvel and Sony about two weeks ago and I know all the secrets," he told HeyUGuys in February 2020. "But I’ve also done about a thousand interviews, so I know how not to spoil a movie anymore!"

While Maguire and Garfield's parts remain unconfirmed, it is certain that Benedict Cumberbatch will be part of Holland's movie.

"Benedict is a great partner for him on the press tour," Joe Russo said. "Because Benedict is actually very good at dancing around spoilers — and monitoring Tom Holland."

The "Doctor Strange" star will be playing an important role in Holland's film. Their characters will have a close relationship as Cumberbatch will be a father figure and mentor to Holland's Peter Parker — a role that was previously played by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Stark played a significant role in Parker's life because it was the former who discovered the latter and designed his Spider-Man suit. In the last "Spider-Man" movie, Parker was grieving over Stark's death saying, "I just really miss him.” So, Cumberbatch’s addition is expected to reinforce the young superhero’s morale.

Holland's "Spider-Man 3" remains untitled, but it is expected to be released on Dec. 17, 2021
