Following Google’s recent announcement that Android Market has reached an important milestone - 10 billion downloads per month – the Internet search engine giant also released a detailed infographic that showed how the world is being driven forward by Google power.

The No.1 Google app-crazed country is South Korea. For a country which boasts of blazing-fast Internet connection and is home to Samsung and LG, which make Android OS-based smartphones and tablets worldwide, this rank is not so surprising. Close on its heels was Hong Kong (No.2) and Taiwan (No. 3).

But where is US? When it comes to Android apps, U.S. is ranked No. 4. Probably this is because the craze of Americans for apps is divided between Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Market. Incidentally, the App Store reached 15 billion downloads in July (up from 10 billion in January) but Android Market is growing at a faster pace – 10 billion in December, up from 3 billion in March and 6 billion in July.

Another interesting fact is this - Among the countries in Europe, the UK, France or Germany where conspicuous by their absence in the top 10 list. Singapore was No.5, followed by Sweden (No.6), Israel (No.7), Denmark (No.8), Netherlands (No.9) and Norway (No.10). Other countries which were surprisingly missing in the top 10 list were the two biggest mobile phone markets - China and India. Perhaps, when it comes to downloading apps, Chinese and Indians are not that crazy.

And if you’re wondering what categories of apps were downloaded most, no prizes for guessing that it was games (25.6% of downloads). At a distant No.2 was entertainment (12.2%), followed by tools (11.17%), communication (6.45%) and productivity (4.67%).

Google also shared some interesting facts – for example, the most popular time of Android app download turns out to be Sunday 9:00 PM while the least popular time to download is Monday 4:00 AM.

To celebrate the record-breaking event, Google meanwhile has rolled out a slew of new apps that include Asphalt 6 HD, Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Fieldrunners HD, Great Little War Game, Minecraft, Paper Camera, Sketchbook Mobile, Soundhound Infinity & Swiftkey X. They are available on Android Market for only 10 cents each, till December 16.
