President Trump will accept the Republican presidential nomination in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to a Twitter posting Wednesday from a Spectrum News reporter, who cited an interview with Vice President Mike Pence.

“I just wrapped an interview with @VP and he told me Pres Trump will accept the nomination IN Charlotte on the Monday of @GOPconvention,” the reporter tweeted.

The Republican convention will take place Aug. 24-27.

The convention was originally scheduled for Charlotte, but Trump moved the event from North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida, following a dispute with Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper over COVID-19 restrictions in the state. Trump then pulled the convention from Florida due to a “flare up” of coronavirus cases in the state.

Cooper addressed speculation Tuesday that Trump would again decide to have the convention in North Carolina.

“He’s welcome to come, but nothing has changed about our resolved to keep health and safety first,” Cooper said during a press conference. “We have not heard anything from the administration or the RNC about this. Obviously we would have concerns about people coming in and about a large crowd, but we’ll continue to keep health and safety number one in this process.”

North Carolina, which has 15 electoral votes, is a vital swing state in the fall election. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden leading Trump by 3.4 points in North Carolina.
