Prince Philip was rumored to have hated kneeling before Queen Elizabeth II during her coronation decades ago.

This was the picture painted of the Duke of Edinburgh in one episode of “The Crown.” But according to royal historian Hugo Vickers, this wasn’t correct.

In fact, the expert called the hit Netflix show “essentially dishonest” because it puts the members of the royal family into fictional situations and their truths are also twisted on the show.

“Fiction can sometimes help you understand but it shouldn’t actually pervert the truth or the facts - and that’s what they do,” he told Express.

In his book “The Crown Dissected,” the royal author fact-checked the first three seasons of “The Crown” and said that his fear is that the viewers of the show will believe whatever they see 100 percent.

“Some will say that they can suspend judgment as to whether it is true or not and simply enjoy it as ‘good drama.’ I understand this point of view, and I daresay there are viewers who are intelligent and perceptive enough not to be swayed into believing that the fictional episodes are in any sense true. But I fear that many viewers do believe what they see,” he said.

Vickers said that Prince Philip was actually happy to kneel in front of his wife during his coronation. But a different storyline aired on “The Crown.” Fellow royal expert Christopher Wilson echoed Vickers’ statement.

While speaking Marie Claire, Wilson said that it is unlikely for Prince Philip to tell the Queen that he didn’t want to kneel before her.

“I doubt Prince Phillip ever spoke those words to his wife because he came from a royal household which had borrowed so much of it is ritual and protocol form the British Royal Family. He knew full well what was expected of him in public, and was prepared to go along with it,” he said.
