Melania Trump and son Barron moved into the White House on Sunday, five months after her husband President Donald Trump took office Jan. 20. The first lady had been living with her 11-year-old son in Manhattan’s Trump Tower so that the latter could finish the school year.

“Looking forward to the memories we’ll make in our new home!” Melania tweeted Sunday from her official @FLOTUS account, along with a photo showing a view of the Washington Monument from a window in the White House. The news of the move was also confirmed by her communications director Stephanie Grisham.

On Sunday, Melania and Donald were pictured holding hands as they walked from Marine One to the White House along with Barron, who sported a T-shirt emblazoned with the words, “The Expert.” Melania's move to the White House comes just ahead of the president's 71st birthday.

While Melania showed excitement about the move on Twitter, Donald has not spoken about his family moving in with him. Instead, he turned the attention of his 32.1 million Twitter followers to his eldest daughter Ivanka's appearance on "Fox and Friends" Monday morning.

Though Melania accompanied her husband on several events and his first foreign trip last month, she largely missed the action in the capital since Trump assumed office in January. She also faced criticism for not officially taking up the role of the first lady while Ivanka was by her father's side on most occasions.

Over the last few month, there has been a lot of anticipation about Melania moving into the White House and officially taking over the role of the first lady, as it is unusual for the first couple to live apart during any stretch of the presidency.

The decision of the first lady not moving to Washington was described by the Washington Post as flouting “the most basic of all first lady traditions,” adding that it appeared “unprecedented.”

Below are some reactions from Twitter users after Melania's move into the White House.

There have been several reports over the last few months about how Melania had been prepping for her move to the White House, despite the dates not being confirmed. WWD reported in February that Melania hired interior designer Tham Kannalikham to help make the White House feel more like home.

"Mrs. Trump has a deep appreciation for the historical aspects of the White House and with Tham’s traditional design and expertise," Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, senior adviser to Melania Trump, first told WWD. "They are focusing on a seamless integration of elegance and comfort into where the President, the First Lady, and [their son] Barron will be spending their family time and calling their home."

Reports also claimed Melania is expected to continue add to the current employees within her East Wing staff.

"I am putting together a professional and highly experienced team which will take time to do properly," Melania said in March, according to CNN. "I am excited to be organizing and bringing together such a dynamic and forward-thinking group of individuals who will work together to make our country better for everyone."
