The new schedule is a tad bit confusing, pushing premiere dates up a week earlier than they were previously scheduled. The move comes as an attempt to allow “additional exposure and time to launch.”

Starting off the fall will be “The Vampire Diaries” on Thursday, Oct. 3, which was initially set to premiere on Thursday, Oct. 10. Following the premiere will be its spin-off series, “The Originals,” which will move to its normal time slot on Tuesdays the next week. Although “The Originals” back door pilot was shown during season four of “The Vampire Diaries,” the fall premiere is said to be from the perspective of Elijah this time around.

“The Originals” will air its second episode on its regular scheduled night on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. Those that miss it will get an opportunity to view an encore of the episode on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 9 p.m., following the second episode of “The Vampire Diaries.”

On Oct. 17, the Thursday schedule will return to normal, with a new series called “Reign” premiering at 9 p.m. after episode three of “The Vampire Diaries.” According to a press release from the CW, “Reign” is a period-drama about Mary, Queen of Scots.
