Vampire Diaries Finale
Nina Dobrev hopes her character Elena's last episode of "The Vampire Diaries," the Season 6 finale, is powerful and beautiful. CW

Nina Dobrev’s final episode of “The Vampire Diaries” is almost here. Her character Elena will leave in the Season 6 finale, airing Thursday, and the 26 year old recently revealed to Self magazine what she hoped the finale would be like.

As the leading lady, the Canadian actress not only wanted the finale to write her off, but she wanted the episode to showcase a lot of different emotions. “It’s important for me that it be epic and powerful,” Dobrev said. “I feel like I’m a completely different person than I was and I’ve grown so much. It’s been a big part of my life, and I want it to be beautiful. I want it to end well.”

Does “end well” mean Elena will get a happy ending? That isn’t clear, especially after the she was knocked unconscious in episode 21. It seems as if the newly-human Elena is more likely to get a death scene. While her character might not be lucky, Dobrev is fortunate enough to have her boss agree with her about the episode's tone. The actress’ sentiment echoes executive producer Julie Plec’s recent statement about the finale.

The showrunner wouldn’t reveal Elena’s fate, but the way she described the finale matches what Dobrev wanted. “I will say that it’s extremely emotional and also, strangely, powerful and beautiful,” Plec told Variety. “It will be satisfying with the outcome.”

Dobrev leaving wasn’t what Plec wanted, and the writer even tried to convince Dobrev to stay. However, the actress had already made her mind up, and once again, assured fans that there were no hard feelings. “I’ve loved working on this show,” Dobrev said. “It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I’ve been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them.”

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 finale airs Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW. Do you think the finale can be great even though Elena is leaving? Sound off in the comments section below!
