A disturbing video has emerged online showing bags stuffed with cats and dogs left on a street in China as officials prepare to kill them. The pets owned by COVID patients are reportedly killed as part of the country's extreme measures to combat the virus.

According to the strict zero-COVID policy, people who test positive for the virus are shifted to quarantine centers, where they have to remain for an unspecified amount of time. When people leave to quarantine centers, the police reportedly enter their houses and kill their pets, fearing that these animals would spread the virus around, Catch News reported.

Footage shared with a caption: "This is pure evil!" was posted on Twitter on April 16 and went viral on social media fetching more than 982 K views since then. The video shows live pets wriggling inside trash covers left on the sidewalk of a road in Shanghai while waiting to be transported where they would be eventually slaughtered.

"26 million people in lockdown in Shanghai. People are committing suicide from their balconies and pets from people getting tested positive for #Covid are being collected to be killed and slaughtered in #Shanghai / #China," the post read.

Meanwhile, several viewers who are outraged by the gruesome abuse came forward criticizing the country's brutal measures. "People locked in camps and now the Zero COVID policy in Shanghai is also affecting pets... Imagine still believing this is all about your health," a viewer wrote while sharing the video.

"It’s more horrific than we could ever imagine," a viewer replied sharing another heartbreaking footage that shows health workers dragging pet dogs into the back of pickup vehicles. This video that appears to be shot from a balcony shows a worker dressed in a hazmat suit kicking a dog and dragging it through a street toward a vehicle that has several dogs piled up inside it.

Another video that emerged on social media last week showed a healthcare worker thrashing a pet dog to death after its owner tested positive for COVID-19. An official dressed in protective gear could be seen chasing a corgi down a street, hitting it three times with a shovel before leaving the dog motionless.
