"The Walking Dead" usually launches every new season in October since 2010 but for the first time, the zombie drama is slated to return in August.

This means the Horror drama will first-time release two months before the Halloween holiday.

AMC network revealed the release date of the final season during the last episode of season 10, Sunday. The teaser disclosed that the "first of a massive 24-episode story arc that will bring the show's decade-long successful run to conclusion."

One of the official Twitter handles of "The Walking Dead" series posted a new teaser and wrote, "A New World Order. The final season begins on August 22nd."

Another official handle also tweeted, "#TheWalkingDead's final season kicks off Sunday, August 22nd on AMC."

"Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we're excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever," Angela Kang, executive producer and the showrunner of "The Walking Dead" was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, as saying.

"The stakes will be high – we'll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them," Kang told the outlet.

The final season of the horror drama will consist of 24 episodes and it will end in late 2022. AMC is also planning to create another series (untitled yet) with Reedus and Melissa McBride, who portrayed Daryl and Carol's characters in the popular horror drama.

Last year in September, AMC announced that "The Walking Dead" will come to an end with season 11. Before the announcement, there was a debate between the executives to end the popular series with season 11 or 12. However, the final decision was to end the series with season 11.

Chief content officer of the series, Scott M. Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter, "The final chapter of The Walking Dead begins with eight action-packed episodes that will feature the massive scope and scale fans have come to expect from TWD Universe, and I'm thrilled to share that fans won't have to wait long for these incredible new episodes to debut this summer."
