“The Walking Dead” has released new photos of the leader of the villains in Season 9B. The new villain faction has already been revealed to be The Whisperers, and their leader is called Alpha (Samantha Morton).

Morton is unrecognizable in the picture unveiled by Entertainment Weekly. Alpha wears a mask that is actually made of the skin of a zombie. She and the other members of the Whisperers blend in with the zombies, and they always speak in whispers. The most terrifying aspect of this faction is the skin masks they all wear.

The trailer of "The Walking Dead" Season 9B already teased Alpha and Beta (Ryan Hurst), her second in command. The faction has already made its presence felt to the heroes, and the coming episodes should see the action pick up pace against this group.

According to the official synopsis of the upcoming episodes, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the others will begin to realize that there’s something different about the zombies they are encountering recently. The secret of the Whisperers will be both “disturbing” and “terrifying.”

The new showrunner, Angela Kang, previously teased that the show will explore the “brutal” philosophy of The Whisperers, which is based on survival of the fittest. This philosophy will play out in “horrifying ways.”

According to the full synopsis posted on TV Guide, many of the characters on the show have become strangers to each other and to themselves. This may have something to do with the disappearance of Rick (Andrew Lincoln). What may bind the group together is the knowledge that they are all in imminent danger.

The old ways will no longer work for the group of heroes to survive. The new threat is unlike anything they have ever faced. The stakes are high and numerous, according to the synopsis.

The departure of Rick was difficult for the fans to watch. The character was the heart of the show since the very beginning. However, there is some good news for the fans of the character. A trilogy of movies with Rick has been planned by AMC, and they will be filmed in 2019, Deadline reported.

For now, the absence of Rick will continue to cast a shadow on the other characters in “The Walking Dead” Season 9B. The TV series is set to return in 2019. Episode 9 will air on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
