The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards was a bit different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although the show was originally set to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the ceremony still had plenty of NYC vibes thanks to the wide variety of performances that took place throughout the night across the five boroughs.

Check out the top five performances from the 2020 MTV VMAs.

Lady Gaga And Ariana Grande

It was a big night for Gaga who took home five VMAs including the first-ever Tricon award, which honors stars who are considered triple-threats. Gaga also hit the stage to perform a medley of “Enigma,” “Chromatica II,” “911,” “Stupid Love,” and “Rain on Me” with some help from Grande.

BTS

The K-pop group made their VMA debut with a major bang. BTS took the stage to sing their first all-English language single, “Dynamite,” which recently broke a YouTube record after garnering 101.1 million views in 24 hours.

Black Eyed Peas

Fans may have thought they were getting an official Black Eyed Peas reunion at the 2020 MTV VMAs, but the performance went on without original group member Fergie. Will.i.am, Taboo, and apl.de.ap hit the stage to perform their classic hit “I Gotta Feeling” with Jessica Reynoso, who goes by the stage name J. Rey Soul, helping belt out the popular lyrics.

Doja Cat

The artist hit the stage to perform her songs “Say So” and “Like That,” but it was her wardrobe that got a majority of the attention. Fans couldn’t take their eyes off of her glowing body parts throughout the performance.

The Weeknd

The singer opened the show by channeling his “Blinding Lights” character and performing the hit song to a fireworks display, which took place behind him on the Hudson River. While his performance was praised on social media, his acceptance speech for picking up best R&B and video of the year may have been the most memorable moment of the night.

“It’s really hard for me to celebrate right now and enjoy this moment, so I’m just going to say justice for Jacob Blake and justice for Breonna Taylor,” The Weeknd said.
