After months of canceled concerts and festivals, the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards have finally arrived. The show will mark the first live awards ceremony since the coronavirus pandemic resulted in large gatherings being banned in most states.

The 2020 VMAs will be broadcast live on television from New York City on Sunday, Aug. 30. Fans can either watch the show on TV or stream it on MTV.com and the MTV app. However, viewers will need to use their TV provider login information to gain access to the program.

Like most things this year, the VMAs will feature some alterations due to the pandemic. After consulting with state and local health officials, MTV decided to move the event outdoors after initially planning to use the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the venue, reports Entertainment Weekly. The VMAs are expected to return indoors in 2021 at the Barclays Center.

As for the audience, when the show airs there will either be few or no audience members in attendance. The scheduled performances will also be spread out, taking place across the five boroughs.

Nonetheless, Keke Palmer will still be on hand to bring the laughs and host the highly anticipated ceremony.

“We’re thrilled to have the multi-talented Keke Palmer as this year’s VMAs host,” Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming, and events for ViacomCBS Media Networks said in a statement. “Keke is an energetic force and a quadruple threat with unmatched comedic wit who will make this year’s show truly unforgettable.”

When it comes to the awards, music lovers tuning in to the 2020 VMAs will notice that two new quarantined themed categories have been added to the show. The network will hand out trophies for the best quarantine performance and best music video from home.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga are tied as the most nominated artists of the night with each singer receiving nine nods, including seven for their shared song, “Rain on Me.” The Weeknd and Billie Eilish trail the ladies with six nods each. Taylor Swift follows close behind with five nominations.

The 2020 VMAs are scheduled to air on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 8 p.m. EDT on MTV.
