A wedding guest was charged nearly $5 by a couple after surveillance footage revealed he took two slices of cake at the reception.

The guest, who is believed to be British, paid £3.66 ($4.9) after it was revealed that attendees would have to pay for each slice of the wedding cake, according to a post on online message board Reddit. However, he was charged another $4.9 after CCTV footage showed that he had taken another slice despite only paying for one.

"I paid for the first slice after it was announced on the day we'd be helping to pay for their cake! [It] apparently didn't count for the second," Reddit user Unlucky_Low_6242 shared Wednesday on the site's "Wedding Shaming" sub-forum.

The bride, who tried to claim the money, sent the guest a copy of the security video, 7News.com.au reported.

"Can you please send the £3.66 ASAP," she told the guest in a follow-up text message.

The paid cake slices allegedly became "quite a talking point at the wedding" after the groom's best man announced it. The groom also reiterated it during his speech, according to the post.

"Thought it was a joke but… when people were queuing for the cake, people had to go back to their tables to get cash," the guest wrote.

"And get this, they had a card reader and [were] even taking names for tabs!" he added.

Fellow Reddit users — seemingly confused by the whole situation — asked the guest if paying for slices of cake during weddings was a "cultural thing." They replied, "I've never heard of it before."

"Can safely say as a Brit this is not the norm here," one user chimed in.

"It's called being selfish, mates. This isn't a cultural thing. It's called being a piece of s--t," another one commented.

Some users were more concerned about the couple reviewing surveillance footage of their wedding reception.

"They reviewed the tape? What the f--k," one user stated.

"I’m not sure which I’m more horrified at 1) making guests pay for wedding cake at all 2) monitoring the footage for guest consumption," another user wrote.

Some users also joked about the whole ordeal.

"I mean... I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have an extra £3.66 in my pocket than enjoy my honeymoon," one user commented in the original post.

"Judge Judy would tear her guts out with her razor tongue," another one remarked when a commenter suggested the guest should take the matter to a small claims court.

It was unclear if the guest paid for the second slice of cake.
