Westworld
HBO's successful sci-fi drama “Westworld” has been renewed for a second season. HBO

“Westworld” creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are very tight-lipped when it comes to the show’s spoilers, so the cast are unable to pry any secrets out of them. Due to this, lead stars Evan Rachel Wood, Jimmi Simpson, Shannon Woodward and Jeffrey Wright created a text chain in order to discuss their own theories.

“Poor Jimmi,” Wood told IndieWire. “He was my rock during the whole first season, and he would just get an earful every day from me about the thousands of theories that I had.”

“It was very much the way Evan describes it,” Simpson added. “We were all just speculating. Shannon and Evan seemed to talk the most and have the most in depth reasons for everything. Half the time they’d be totally right, sometimes they’d be half-right and sometimes they’d be completely wrong.”

But Wright said Wood’s theories are all “kind of waving in the wind there,” just like everybody else.

For his part, Wright entertained a new fan theory presented by Business Insider that Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) was in love with his character, Arnold Lowe, all along. “This is what’s wonderful about the show,” he said of the theory. “We’ve got our writers’ room, and then there’s a cyber writers’ room, as well.”

“We haven’t explicitly explored any of that. Clearly we know that Ford, at the very least rather, we know that there were not a lot of humans that Ford actually relates with, on any level. So the loss of one that he actually can have a conversation with, there’s a lot of fertile ground in there to extrapolate and imagine why that might be,” he continued.

Next season, Wright said that Bernard will be taking on a leadership role now that Ford has been shot dead by Dolores Abernathy (Wood). “There’s this suggestion that Bernard is the captain now. So there’s a lot to be explored next year,” he told The Daily Beast.

“Westworld” Season 2 will return to HBO on 2018.
