Xiaomi is preparing to release its own Apple Watch competitor, the aptly named Xiaomi Watch. This watch is said to be the company's first wearable to run on Wear OS, and feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform.

What can the upcoming Xiaomi Watch do with the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip? Here's a quick look at some possibilities.

Fast performance

The Snapdragon Wear 3100 uses a quad-core Cortex A7 architecture and clocks at 1.2 GHz. This is expected to result in fast smartwatch performance, the ability to switch between several functions smoothly, and the capacity to run a third-party app without any problem, GizChina reported.

Efficient and energy saving

The Snapdragon Wear 3100 has a Qualcomm QCC1110 ultra-low power co-processor that allows the main processor to do its tasks better. Qualcomm described this minuscule chip as having the ability give the Wear 3100 re-defined audio, video and sensor performance.

The QCC1110 co-processor monitors the state of the device and adjusts performance accordingly. If it notices that the Xiaomi Watch is low on power, for example, it will turn power-hungry features off so the device can continue to function even when battery is low. Best of all, this component itself does all of that while consuming only minimal battery power.

Three Different Modes

The Xiaomi Watch will be able to support three different modes thanks to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform: a “traditional watch mode,” an “enhanced mode,” and the so-called “professional sports experience.”

  • As the name implies, setting the device in “traditional watch mode” results in getting basic functions only. While the mode is simple, it's the one that consumes the least energy.
  • “ Enhanced mode” allows users to choose from a variety of themes and functions according to their preference. This mode is perfect for those who want to have a stylish smartwatch on their wrists.
  • “ Professional sports mode,” on the other hand, activates all sensors to monitor the wearer's condition. Sensors include GPS and heart rate sensors.

Xiaomi is expected to announce its new wearable, the Xiaomi Watch, on Nov. 5. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
