WhatsApp Will Stop Running On These Phones In 2023

WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications, but due to the sheer number of devices that the application must support, not all older devices may have access to the latest features.

Starting Dec. 31, WhatsApp will no longer be available on devices that are not running the latest operating system.

These devices include some old yet popular Android phones by Samsung, Huawei, and other brands, as well as some older iPhone models. Note that many of these devices are relatively old at this point, so users may have already upgraded to a newer phone.

Thus, if your current smartphone doesn't support the latest WhatsApp upgrade, you'll need to switch to a new phone.

According to WhatsApp's official support page, the app is compatible with Android smartphones running OS version 4.1 or higher, and iOS smartphones running iOS 12 or higher. Smartphones running KaiOS 2.5 are also supported.

"To keep up with the latest advances in technology, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you'll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp," the messaging app said in its blog, as per Daily Trust.

There are at least 49 smartphone models that will no longer support WhatsApp beginning Dec. 31, according to GizChina.

LG Models that won't support WhatsApp include:

Enact 2, Lucid 2, Optimus 4X HD, Optimus F3, Optimus F3Q, Optimus F5, Optimus F6, Optimus F7, Optimus L2 II, Optimus L3 II, Optimus L3 Dual, Optimus L4 II, Optimus L4 Dual, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L7, Optimus L7 II, Optimus L7 II Dual, and Optimus Nitro.

Samsung models that won't run WhatsApp include:

Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Xcover 2, and Galaxy Core.

Apple iPhone models that won't run WhatsApp are:

Apple iPhone 5 and Apple iPhone 5C.

Huawei Models:

Ascend D, Ascend D1, Ascend D2, Ascend P1, Ascend Mate, and Ascend G740.

Sony Models:

Xperia Arc S, Xperia Miro, and Xperia Neo L.

Other phones that won't support WhatsApp are:

Archos 53 Platinum, ZTE Memo V956, ZTE Grand S Flex, ZTE Grand X Quad V987, HTC Desire 500, Quad XL, Lenovo A820, Wiko Cink Five, and Wiko Darknight ZT.
