Singer Sinead O’Connor is in mourning following the death of her 17-year-old son Shane O’Connor, who was reported missing earlier this week in Newbridge, Ireland.

On Friday evening, the singer took to Twitter to inform followers that her son had passed away. “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” she tweeted.

“May he rest in peace, and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

Prior to his death, Shane was reported missing on Thursday in Newbridge, Ireland, and his mother pleaded for him to check in with members of law enforcement. At the time, the Irish police stated they were concerned about his welfare.

In a tweet shared on Thursday, Sinéad O’Connor slammed the hospital where her son was a patient at the time of his disappearance.

“Like, how has a seventeen-year-old traumatized young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing??? Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility. Anything happens to my son on their watch? Lawsuits,” the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer wrote.

Following his death, O’Connor criticized Ireland. “I have now formally identified the remains of my son, Shane. May God forgive the Irish State, for I never will,” she tweeted.

For now, O’Connor plans to mourn her son but insisted she plans to share more information about his death.

“I’m going to take private time now to grieve my son. When I am ready, I will be telling exactly how the Irish State in the ignorant, evil, self-serving, lying forms of Tusla and the HSE enabled and facilitated his death,” she tweeted.

O’Connor, who shares son Shane with ex Dónal Lunny, has three other children from other relationships.
