There’s a reason why the Legends aren’t showing up to help out in “Elseworlds,” this year’s CW superhero crossover.

The special event usually incorporates characters from “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” but the 2018 edition only features people from the first three shows. “Legends” will still air its Season 4 midseason finale tonight; it just won’t be part of the event.

The crossover kicked off Sunday night with Season 5, episode 9 of “The Flash,” which aired during the usual time slot of “Supergirl.” The crossover schedule continues with “Arrow” tonight, then skips over “Legends of Tomorrow,” and then wraps up with “Elseworlds” part three during Tuesday’s “Supergirl,” which airs during the usual “Flash” time slot.

The reason the Legends couldn’t be a part of the three-night event this time around was simply because of scheduling issues. Each series has a lot going on, and it’s hard enough to make a crossover between two or three shows work, but making it work between four shows just wasn’t in the cards for 2018.

“We’re really busy,” star Caity Lotz (Sara Lance) told TVLine of her show not being in the crossover. “We just couldn’t schedule it in. I mean, you know, logistically, it’s crazy. And when you have too many characters, you don’t have the ability to really do good character work and to dive into these stories. And it’s just too much.”

She continued: “I think the Legends have really kind of set themselves apart from the rest of the Arrowverse. Like, we’re very different. We’re not the same kind of show as the other ones, so we don’t fit as much.”

That said, Lotz mentioned in the interview that she’d still love to see some more mini-crossovers, where one or two characters pop over onto other shows in the Arrowverse. Plus, she’d love to have Batwoman (Ruby Rose) on “Legends of Tomorrow,” seeing as the new character is making her debut appearance during the “Elseworlds” crossover event and won’t get to meet the Legends this time around.

Hopefully there will be plenty of time to make that happen, but that’ll only be the case if The CW decides to pick up the “Batwoman” series that it’s currently developing. Until then, fans can check her out in the “Elseworlds” crossover event and can continue to watch all of the other superhero shows on The CW, including “Legends of Tomorrow,” which airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. EST.
